Maths with BAM Construction

Construction
The annual Bucks Skills Show helps young people explore careers and work out how to get there. But 2020 was different: instead of the usual face-to-face format, we streamed live inspirational employers into lessons to show how they use curriculum subjects in their every-day job.

This interactive lesson in Maths explores Algebra with BAM construction.

Bam Construct together with our civil engineering arm – Bam Nuttall, Bam Design, Bam Plant and Bam Facilities Management are subsidiaries of a parent organisation, ROYAL BAM, based in the Netherlands. In simple terms, we design, construct, refurbish and operate outstanding buildings. For public and private sector clients, and for our own portfolio of properties. We’ve been building in the UK since 1874. Offices, schools, hospitals, university departments, hotels, research labs, cultural venues, museums, travel hubs… from the iconic to the purely functional. We are currently building the new leisure centre – Chiltern Lifestyle in Amersham and the Chiltern Hills Academy extension in Chesham.

Speaker:

June Wilkinson, Education & Community Co-ordinator, Bam Construction.

My role in Bam is working with young people and the community providing opportunities to develop skills either in the classroom or on site. I lead our teams in giving back to the local community with professional expertise, practical support and fundraising. I am a STEM Ambassador and passionate about promoting the variety of careers in the construction industry. No two days are the same for me, which I really enjoy. I might be attending a careers or STEM fair, giving careers talks, delivering STEM workshops and lessons, organising work experience, creating new apprenticeship opportunities or working with charities.
