Yesterday, the public voted in the 2024 Local Government elections. This is an opportunity for residents to choose who they want to represent their councils, towns and communities.
This year, the UK has been electing over 2,500 local councillors, 11 Mayors (including the Mayor of London) as well as Police and Crime Commissioners.
How might the results impact young people? 🤔
Your local representatives are important, as they may impact the resources allocated to your school, further education courses, or work experience in your area.
This year's local elections are getting extra attention as the UK needs to hold a General Election by January 2025. The results might indicate public opinion ahead of next year.
Your students could investigate who has been standing for local council and their policies. This means they will feel more informed about voting once they turn 18 👍
