Project ROUTE: Data, Digital and Transport Career Opportunities for Schools and Colleges

Inspire Students into Data, Digital and Transport Careers

Project ROUTE is a national initiative from DigData and Intelligent Transport Systems UK, designed to inspire 10,000 young people to explore careers in transport, data and digital industries.

Through real-world challenges, virtual work experience, industry placements and employer engagement activities, Project ROUTE helps students discover the exciting opportunities available in sectors shaping the future of transport and infrastructure.

Schools and colleges can access a range of opportunities throughout the year, helping students gain valuable insights into careers involving data, technology, sustainability, planning and innovation.

Career Leaders Event

Career leaders, teachers and educators are invited to attend an online information session to learn more about Project ROUTE and the opportunities available during the academic year.

The session will provide an overview of the programme, upcoming activities and ways schools and colleges can get involved.

Live Online Career Challenges

Students can take part in interactive virtual work experience sessions exploring how transport planners use data to make services safer, faster and more reliable.

Two age-specific sessions are available:

  • First Step for Years 7 to 9

  • Next Step for Years 10 to 13 and Further Education students

The sessions take place online outside of school hours and do not require teacher attendance.

Data Futures Student Event: Your Journey Into Transport

This interactive online event introduces students to the diverse range of careers shaping the future of transport.

Students will hear about roles in:

  • Data and analytics

  • Artificial intelligence

  • Technology

  • Cyber security

  • Transport planning

  • Sustainability

The event highlights the wide variety of pathways available and the skills young people can develop for future careers.
