When you first hear of a Craft Engineer, you might think of someone who creates things for the likes of Hobbycraft or a local brewery. But neither of those are correct! Can you guess what they do? Here's a few clues... engines, appliances, medical equipment...
Craft Engineers are familiar with a range of tools for different jobs and know exactly how each one works for optimal efficiency. They form an essential part of the engineering field and without them, little things that make machines both big and small work, such as wires, gears and motors - would not exist! Think of it as a human body without any nerves or tendons - it just wouldn’t work.
How do you become a Craft Engineer I hear you say? Well, there are many ways you can access this career; an apprenticeship, university etc, however, the most important thing to note if you are considering a career in craft engineering is that of what skills you have. Craft Engineers need to be particularly patient, with fine attention to detail and the ability to think quite technically as well as mathematically. Not only this, but they need to be very thorough and have an interest in operating, fixing and controlling equipment.
BAE Systems, a well known Engineering company that work across communications and defence, have just opened up their 2022 apprenticeship applications, with Craft Engineering being just one of the multiple opportunities.
