Brings the world of work alive in your classroom
The easing of COVID restrictions has meant that film crews can get out and about on location again to capture the world of work to bring to your classroom.
The first assignment was filming at one of the most modern facilities in the country – the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus.
The project - What’s in a building? - is designed to bring to life construction jobs that young people didn’t know existed – or at least may not even have thought about.
In this WOW Show Special we meet five specialists – from architect to ecologist – all working to create more sustainable and environmentally friendly buildings.
Take a look at more familiar trades which your students may think they know about – but which might surprise.
Iit takes a range of skills, with people working together – just like a football team – to build homes, schools and hospitals as well as the futuristic office and science facilities we see at Harwell.

To support the film, the Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (OxLEP) has commissioned a lesson plan and lesson slides authored by our partners, the teacher-led group VotesforSchools. This is a PowerPoint template where the new film is embedded and teachers can easily substitute information about construction projects and progression links specific to their region.
It is suitable for all year groups.
