Bucks Skills Hub teamed up with Bucks New University to invite 35 students with SEND for a day of work experience at the Bucks New University Campus in High Wycombe. Over 3 days, different students help prepare for the largest ever skills show in Buckinghamshire – The Bucks Skills Show.
Filling goodie bags with leaflets and pens, they were also able to learn and use transferable work-related learning skills such as teamwork, interpersonal skills, independent working and more. Throughout their time on work experience, students grew in confidence and were able to reflect upon their current capabilities, skills and qualities whilst considering their future career outcomes.

After their hard work, students were able to have a tour of the university campus including the sound studio and flight simulator for a more sensory experience. Many students faced their fear of the large imposing building and were able to push through other barriers that concerned them about being at University in general.
Fiona Holmes, Career Lead at Alfriston School had the following to say:
‘The day gave the girls the opportunity to experience teamwork in a different environment doing a different activity to what they had ever done before. They showed problem solving and communication skills. We certainly saw a competitive side coming in with them!’
