Seeds of Change at Lindengat

Third Sector / Voluntary Sector

Seeds of Change is a hands-on outdoor programme based at Lindengate in Wendover, designed for young people aged 6–25. It offers a supportive and engaging environment where participants can explore food growing, cooking, creativity, and community involvement.

Whether someone is looking to spend more time outdoors, try something new, learn practical skills, or find a calm and inclusive space, Seeds of Change provides an opportunity to get involved.

A space to grow and belong

Participants are not passive observers—they become part of a working environment where they contribute to growing food, supporting local initiatives, and caring for the natural surroundings.

Activities are designed to be meaningful and collaborative, helping young people build confidence while making a tangible difference.

Opportunities include:

  • Growing fruit, vegetables and flowers

  • Learning to cook using fresh, garden-grown produce

  • Contributing to community meals and food events

  • Developing confidence, independence and teamwork skills

  • Meeting new people and forming friendships

  • Spending time outdoors in a welcoming and safe setting

  • Gaining practical life and employability skills

  • Taking part in creative projects, storytelling and digital media

Inclusive and flexible learning

Seeds of Change is designed to be accessible and inclusive, welcoming young people from a wide range of backgrounds, including:

  • SEND settings

  • Mainstream schools

  • Alternative provision

  • Home-educated learners

  • Youth and community groups

Flexible pathways are available to suit different needs and interests, including:

  • Longer-term programmes

  • Volunteering and leadership opportunities

Each experience is shaped to reflect individual confidence levels, interests and personal goals.

Real-world experience

The programme focuses on practical, hands-on learning rather than classroom-based activity. Participants are involved in projects that directly benefit the community, such as:

  • Planting and harvesting seasonal produce

  • Preparing meals from ingredients grown on site

  • Supporting local food projects and pop-up events

  • Contributing ideas to shape activities and spaces

  • Collaborating with others to solve real challenges

Supportive environment

Lindengate’s team includes specialists in horticulture, cooking, wellbeing and education. They provide guidance and encouragement throughout, ensuring participants feel supported at every stage.

The environment is relaxed and inclusive, allowing individuals to take part at their own pace. No prior experience is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to try.

Supporting wellbeing and confidence

Spending time outdoors and engaging in purposeful activity can have a positive impact on wellbeing. Many participants experience:

  • Increased confidence

  • Improved wellbeing

  • Stronger social connections

  • A greater sense of purpose

  • Pride in their achievements

Progress is recognised through reflection, creative outputs, and shared experiences such as group discussions and community projects.

Seeds of Change offers more than just gardening—it provides a pathway for young people to build skills, develop confidence and feel part of a positive and supportive community.
