We love autumn. Nature puts on its annual art show, hearty dinners are back on the menu and it’s a culture-vulture paradise, with new exhibitions at every turn. Best of all, our home boasts some of the finest – and most varied – museums in the country, so whether you're looking for career inspiration or want to impress interviewers with your industry knowledge, there’s something for everyone to get stuck into this season.

For art lovers…

Oxford’s Ashmolean Museum makes for an easy, arty day out, thanks to the Pre-Raphaelites exhibition. From a sketch on the back of an envelope to elaborate chalk drawings, this display of over 100 works uncovers the iconic group of rabble-rousers’ complex friendships and love affairs. Think a 19th Century equivalent of Fleetwood Mac. Open until 27th November 2022

For science enthusiasts…

Ever imagined what it was like to be a scientist during the COVID-19 pandemic? What If You Were Asked to Save the World? invites you to go behind the scenes at AstraZeneca to find out what it took to understand the virus, create an effective vaccine and make enough doses for the entire world – all while under intense emotional strain. Open until 31st January 2023.

For history buffs…

Ancient history and the modern age collide in Pitt Rivers Museum’s latest exhibition – Wandering in Other Worlds. This immersive exploration of Evenki cosmology and shamanic tradition through virtual reality highlights how us humans have not kept up our responsibilities to the natural word. Open until 3rd September 2023

For tech heads…

Fans of the Imitation Game will love The Art of Data: Making Sense of the World. Twitter bot networks, MK Dons football player analysis and a necklace that shows air pollution are just some of the fascinating examples of visualised data on display at this Bletchley Park exhibition. What else would you expect from the home of the WWII Codebreakers?

For fashionistas…

How cool is this handbag art by Central St Martins alumni, Debra Franses? The quirky creations have featured in New York Fashion Week, several international galleries and even on the Christmas tree at The Kempinski Hotel in Marbella, but you don’t have to travel abroad to check them out for yourself. Just head to the new ArtBag Studio on Old Amersham High Street.
